Derek is a Violence Interrupter with CeaseFire Illinois. His interview took place at a church BBQ in the Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago where he leverages his credibility in the vicinity as a means to convince others to stop engaging in violent activity.

Conceived by video artist Lincoln Schatz, Cure Violence: Portrait of an Epidemic is a composite video portrait of more than fifty Chicagoans committed to ending gun violence.
