Portrait of Water

“I look at a wave and see reflection, pattern, shape, size, speed, color and transparency. Each wave is unique and part of a massive generative system. I think about tide charts and cycles of movement over time. While I cognitively understand them, I am simultaneously humbled by their immensity and power. It is important to feel small.” – LS

Portrait of Water is part of Lincoln Schatz’s continuing investigation of systems. For this project, he filmed the Atlantic and Pacific oceans and Lake Michigan. The resulting generative video explores the formal, cognitive, and physical experience of these three bodies of water.
